ActiveSound

Emotional sound design

The downsizing of modern combustion engines is making the driving experience less and less emotional. The acoustic recognition value of a car – often an important customer requirement – is increasingly suffering as a result. That’s why we at Areus Engineering have developed an active sound system that synthesizes a large-volume, sporty engine sound depending on vehicle parameters such as engine speed and rpm and emits it to the outside via a loudspeaker. The driver thus retains the emotional experience of a powerful, sonorous-sounding combustion engine.

Your reliable full service partner

Thanks to our multidisciplinary teams of specialists, we unite all value-added services from hardware and software development, sound design, loudspeaker technology and acoustics through to series production of the entire system under one roof. The result is a compact unit consisting of loudspeaker, housing and electronics, including a structural heat sink, which can be installed in the vehicle to save space.

In cooperation with STMicroelectronics, a fully integrated system was created around the STA1079 microprocessor from the powerful Telemaco2 family, which takes over both the central control of the system and the audio signal processing. The engine sounds generated in the DSP are output to the loudspeaker by the FDA2100LV digital power amplifier with up to 120W of power. Power management for the logic section is handled by the L5963 from ST.
